Finding a little perspective…
Size It Up Geography compares total surface area in square kilometres. All 35 countries use the same UN 2020 series, rounded to 1,000 km². Keeping one dataset makes the answers consistent instead of mixing land-only figures with total areas from different years.
A long, narrow country can cover less area than a shorter, wider one. Read the green reference’s square-kilometre label and judge the filled shape, not just its height. The generalized silhouettes are normalized to the stated areas; they are not detailed boundary surveys.
Area grows with width and height together. Doubling both makes four times the area, so an area estimate of 2× needs only about 1.41× the width and height. A familiar wall map can also distort your intuition: use the reference in this round as your anchor.
Start with a regional pool if its outlines are familiar, or choose Around the world for a mix. Each game selects five comparisons from the chosen pool, so the countries can appear again when you replay.
